Our Story
I'm Charmaine Woo, a Bachelor of Law (Hons) graduate with specialist literacy qualifications in the
Orton-Gillingham Method.
Over years tutoring in renowned enrichment
centres, I longed to inject more depth into
the lessons I was conducting. At WordPlay,
powered by literacy science,
we dig deep into writing skills.
A bit more about me:
I was lucky to have great teachers
in the Gifted Education Programme
at Raffles Girls' Primary School,
Raffles Girls' Secondary School, and
Raffles Institution Junior College.
Thanks to them, I believe:
if it isn't fun and addictive, it's not a lesson!
My undergraduate stint at MOE's
Curriculum Planning & Development Division
has left me with incredible mentors and insights.
Speaking of which, back in school, I had the privilege of
being hand-picked for competitive schemes like:

Hi, Mums and Dads!
I'm so glad to meet you.

💌 The MOE-GEP Creative Arts Programme
💌 The NUS-MOE Humanities & Social Sciences Research Programme
💌 RGS' Philosophy Enrichment Programme
💌 Raffles Academy Literature (selective entry back then)
Along the way, I've also:
✏️ Won a Commonwealth short story award
✏️ Made the RI(JC) General Paper Dean's List
✏️ Triumphed in UK-wide essay contests and debates
✏️ Drafted watertight legal advice for clients while living in London
✏️ Been published in a poetry anthology that sits in the National Library of Singapore

All that is to say... I believe writing comes in loads of flavours!
Realistic fiction is one such flavour.
To me, MOE's Paper 1 is a nifty sandbox for kids to learn about this classic genre – and how to play with the fundamentals of English.
Drawing from their own prestigious educational backgrounds, each member of our curriculum team pours care and expertise into every lesson. Together, let's give your child the very best tools to wield words and build worlds!
